Two month chiang mai Visit

We are U.S. citizens visiting Chiang Mai from 11/6/08 to 12/29/08. Know we are allowed 30 day visit without a visa. Can we get a 60 day visa upon entering Chiang Mai at the airport (whatever the cost might be) or must we wait out the first 30 days and then visit another office (consulate office in Chiang Mai perhaps)? Do not really want to leave the country just to be able to re-enter for another 30 days. Thanks.

Airlines are responsible for ensuring that you have the correct visas before allowing you to board your flight. You might find that if you are flying to Thailand for longer than 30 days that they will require you to have a valid visa before boarding the aircraft.

You should be able to get a 60 day tourist visa from the Thai consulate in the States before you depart.
