pre book somewhere or just turn up and find somewhere?

Hi All :-)

I am of to thailand in Nov/Dec, is it easy to fine somewhere to stay if we just turn up, as we are looking to travel from bangkok to phuket do some island hopping then to koh samui, i have looked on a few websites and some say ot is better to pre=book as it is peak season, but we are so confused about what route we want to take and how many nights we would stay at each place we thought it would be better to just book somewhere for the first night and play it by ear, is that a bad idea?

We are only go for just over two weeks so we will be cramming alot in, would you suggest getting flights from bangkok-phuket-koh samui or is it just as easy to get ferries/trains etc

any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks

Janine

Peak season - means flights and accommodation are at a premium. The only thing that may help you is that due to the world economy being such a disaster right now, there may (possibly) be a few more vacancies than usual, but there%26#39;s no guarantee of that.

Your planned route Bangkok-Phuket-Samui sounds fine and you can fly the whole route on Bangkok Airways. But there are no trains Bangkok-Phuket (12 hours by road) and no trains Phuket-Samui, so flying is the only practical option. There is a train Bangkok-Surat Thani, then you%26#39;d need a bus and ferry to Samui, but trains move slowly and you%26#39;d be wasting a lot of time.

It really depends what kind of accommodation you%26#39;re looking for.

For guesthouses: just show up, you%26#39;ll always find something. Plus most of the time you can not prebook them, and if you can it is quite difficult to get a downpayment to the right place.

The more luxurious hotels: these will be a lot cheaper booked online than on the spot.

Transportation: you can always get where you would like to go, but you may be forced in the very cheap, crammed and uncomfortable local buses.
