Sheraton Grande Laguna...Good place to stay?

Hi am looking at going to Phuket for the first time in mid Oct and am looking at the Sheraton Grande for accomodation. Can anyone let me know if they have stayed there and their thoughts on the place? Also how much is it to catch a taxi to Patong? Thanks Travis

Hi Travis, The Sheraton is nice but I feel you pay a bit for the name and it is about 25 minutes from patong which will cost about 600 baht in a taxi. You could try stay a bit closer as there are 5 star places in Surin Beach which is only 15 minutes from Patong. I would look at the Twin Palms or the Chava Resort. Twin palms is hotel style but done well and the Chava is apartment style done well. Ihave seen both up close and they are great. + in my opinion the Beach at Surin is the best on the island.

Friends (of friends) stayed at the Sheraton and told me they loved it, but they were there with little kids and not looking to party, or even go into Patong at all. Google ';pay stay sheraton phuket'; as there are often pay 4, stay 8 night deals available, which makes the price far more reasonable.

If you want to hit Patong consistently, then it%26#39;s not the place for you. It is about 30+ minutes from Patong and 600 Baht. If you stay within the resort and use Laguna%26#39;s various facilities most of the time (so it%26#39;d be like a resort vacation), then Sheraton is a pretty good place. Note that the grounds are huge so it can take you more than 5 minutes just to walk to the breakfast area. You can eat cheaper at the beach area outside Laguna complex.
