Bangkok Advice please and Thanks

Hello Everyohne

I am a girl stopping off in Bangkok for about three to four nights in Early 2009 as a Stop over on my way to Australia. I will be travelling on my own on way to Oz so I would be a bit nervous. I have a good head on my shoulders. So not a fool. But a lot of people have told me not to go there thats is very dangerous and then loads more have told me its lovely. My instinct has told me to go to Bangkok so I am.I am on a fairy tight Budget. Well I am leaving the Recession:)

Any Advice??

How not to get ripped off

Where to Avoid

Good place for clean massage

What I should definitely see when there

Where is the good nightlife that isnt seedy but good place to meet fellow decent people

Where is the decent place to stay?....Koh San Road was mentioned to me as good spot

Thanks to anyone that can Advise me and Safe Travels

If you are as you describe.. you will not have any problems and have a great time! Walk like you know where you%26#39;re going.. Don%26#39;t stop and look at a map out in the open.. (That makes you a target for a scam or unwanted attention.)

Stay clear of Thai men.. this advise from a guy..

the ones that talk to tourist are not to be trusted..

They appear friendly, but most are up to something.. working a scam or such.

If all you%26#39;re visiting is Bangkok.. get a good book on traveling to BAngkok alone. There are quite a few out there.. Some include a city map, which would be useful. There is much to see any Bangkok.. Main sites are the Grand Palace, Wat Po, Wat Arun, maybe a river or klong tour.. chinatown.. Lots of sightseeing tour options..

Koh San Road is good for budget travelers and backpackers. Crowded, busy and lots going on.. If you%26#39;re a young adult.. it%26#39;s probably a good option.

Bangkok is a big city, spread out and there are things happening all over the city.. day and night.

You will be fine. Thais are a very friendly bunch and we have travelled all over and never encountered anything of concern. Sure Bangkok has some scammers so be wary of getting advise from strangers on the streets.

Koh San Rd area is good for first time travellers as you will find cheap accommodation and every street corner with have a tourist office offering cheap day trips etc. We preferred to stay in Soi Rambutri which is waking distance to Koh San Road but a lot quieter for sleeping of a night.

Have a look at our website for stories and pics of our trips to Thailand ... www.thebobmarsh.com If you have the time do an overnighter to Kanchanaburi (2hr bus trip). There is plenty to do there and it will give you a different perspective to Thailand.

To reinforce what Slowruner said, you should pretty much ignore anyone, man or woman, approaching you with friendly advice. Although quite willing to help when asked, few Thais will approach a stranger, unless they have an angle!

The Grand Palace complex is a hornet%26#39;s nest of touts and scammers. Here you will find many Thais approaching with their advice and services. IGNORE THEM ALL !!! You can tour the grounds on your own.

Chao Phraya express boats are a great means to get to the Grand Palace area. They aren%26#39;t subject to scams. Negociating a taxi around the area can be a nightmare for a tourist.

When you do need a taxi, flag a passing cab. The ones that are parked and waiting for fares are much more likely to try to negotiate a ';set'; fare, many times what the meter would read. If the driver starts quoting a price, insist on the meter or pass on the taxi.

Some ';friendly'; locals:
