Cape Panwa Sights

Hi All,

Would like to take a drive to Cape Panwa to see any good and interesting sights.

I know there is the Aquarium and also Khao Khad Viewpoint, is there anything else interesting to see?

Cheers,

Stewie.

Cape Panwa Sights

Hi Stewie

From memory (and sometimes it%26#39;s not too good) we only visited the aquarium and Khao Khad viewpoint so I don%26#39;t really know if there is any other places of interest but our driver did take us through all the back streets through the villages and I remember really enjoying it because we got to see another side to Phuket apart from busy busy Patong. It%26#39;s a beautiful area down that way. You could always visit Cape Panwa hotel just to check it out. Sorry I can%26#39;t be more help.

Cheers

Jen

Cape Panwa Sights

I%26#39;d go and have dinner at the Cape Panwa Hotel%26#39;s Panwa House - a beautiful colonial building on the beach open to non-residents which serves really good, authentic Thai food. Yes, just drive around. Stop off at Wat Chalong, go down to Rawai beach etc. I think that area is very interesting and %26#39;real%26#39;.

2 night trips to Koh Talu

Could anyone help us make contact with anyone to arrange a two night trip to Koh Talu with transfers to and from Hua Hin. We are in Hua Hin for 11 nights in December.

The only links I can find are for agencies that only show availability up to the end of October 08.

I understand that Buffalo Bill is a good person to contact, so does anyone have up to date contacts for the Olde Buffalo Tavern.

Many thanks

Sights to see near Bang Rong

Hi All,

Would like to take a drive up to Bang Rong , is there anything interesting to see up that way?

Cheers,

Stewie.

Sights to see near Bang Rong

Hi Stewie.

Bang Rong is out of the way, but there are some nice places nearby.

I suggest the following.

Wave to Mark%26#39;s house at Ban Suparmart as you go by.

Stop at the Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre, this is on your left 6 or 7kms (guess)from the Two Heroines Monument. It is at Bang Pae. There is also an elephant riding place and waterfall there. Go for a walk in the jungle. A small restaurant as well. Nice place for a dip and cool off. It costs about 200 baht per head to go into the national park, but none of this goes to the Gibbon people, they rely on donations.

Continue on to Bang Rong. Not much to look at, at that pier. But, park your car and walk back a bit the way you came in and you will see a walkway leading off to a restaurant amongst the mangroves. This is a community project, very nice. Live fish in nets hanging in the sea below the restaurant. You will like this. Not so good in the evening, mosquitos. Lunch is the best time. Good food, cheap, meet the locals.

Boats from Bang Rong go to Kho Yao and Krabi (I think), not much else there for tourists at Bang Rong.

If you go back to the main road and turn right you come to the turn off to Aur Por (Po Bay on some maps). This is where the Sakai lives. Lots of boats and people leave from here for trips into Phang Nga Bay.

If you continue on the main road it goes on past Mission Hills Golf club and then runs back to Thepkassatri Roaad near the airport.

Stop at the cashew nut place on the way back, if it interests you (bit touristy, but has some nice snacks. Try the coconut balls).

Good luck,

Mark.

Ooops.

Forgot to mention. As you turn off the traffic circle at the Two Heroines Monument, there is a museum on the right hand side. Not a tourist one, a proper one. I haven%26#39;t been there for ages, but worth a look. Some Phuket history for you.

The Thai word for museum is something like ';pis-it-sa-pan'; if you are with a driver. Just don%26#39;t say it with a mouth full.

Bye,

Mark.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your info, we have been to Bang Pae and the Gibbon Rehab place on a previous visit, just looking for other interesting spots we havn%26#39;t been to before.

Cheers,

Stewie.

Very informative Khun Mark !

Just to add a bit info. As Khun Mark says, There are transferring boats from Bang Rong to Koh Yao Noi frequently. It%26#39;s worth to see local%26#39;s life on Koh Yao Noi, beautiful scenery, hundred of water buffaloes, big rice field which about 15 meters far from the sea, some home stay accom. and some tradition bungalow stlye, perhaps you have enough time to do it, just park a car there. And agree with Khun Mark, it%26#39;s worth to take a look Phuket history in the museum, I would adjust Thai word a little bit for museum as ';Pi-Pit-Ta-Pan';.

Enjoy your driving and Have a Wonderful Holidays here!

Ae :)

I saw your post about money in another topic, there are some amount of monkeys in mangrove forest around Bang Rong pier too.

Sorry! I would say %26#39;monkey%26#39; in mangrove forest..

Sorry! I mean ';monkey'; in another topic.

Booking a Tower Room with 2 Double Beds for kids to share

I have tried via email to book a tower room with two double beds for my children 10 and 6 to share.

The hotel replied that the only room available for two adults and two children is the Presidential Suite, which I think is unlikely.

Can anyone advise whether I should just book the tower room and not worry or if there is another way around this problem.

We are staying in Bangkok on 3rd to 6th of March 2009 and want to book accommodation now. There is a tower room available for that time.

Would appreciate some help.

You should either look elsewhere like here

asiarooms.com/thailand/bangkok/somerset_park鈼?/a>

For a 2 bedroom one for yourself and husband and one for the children or if you are set on that hotel look at the same website or others and ask if they have a room available for 2 adults and 2 children

  • Chalong Market

    Hi All,

I have just read that there is a shopping centre and permanent markets being built in Chalong and will be finished by the end of 2008.

    Does anyone know about this?

    Cheers,

    Stewie.

    Chalong Market

    Yes.

    Chalong Market

It%26#39;s another branch of Tesco Lotus, about 200 meters far from Chalong Circle, on the way to Rawai Beach.

Simba vs Pro Dive to PhiPhi?

    Hi guys,

I am having trouble deciding which day trip to take to Phi Phi. Is there anyone out there who has been with both, and can give a personal account of comparison.

We are likely to travel btw mid to end of Oct, so rough waters may be a consideration. So is a speed boat (with Simba) better than a sail boat (with Prodive)?

Do they go to different spots, any better than the other?

    thanks in advance

Simba vs Pro Dive to PhiPhi?

    anyone?

Simba vs Pro Dive to PhiPhi?

Can%26#39;t speak for Prodive, but we recently did Simba to Phang Nga. Excellent day out. Observed a lot of the other operators on the day and the number of people they have squashed on to their boats. Would highly recommend Simba. Don%26#39;t know if this helps or not. Haven%26#39;t heard a lot about Prodive.
