Books

Does anyone know if it%26#39;s easy to buy books (fiction) in Phuket as I don%26#39;t want to take any with me. I plan to have an occasional time out by the pool or stretched out in my room reading while I%26#39;m away.

Thanks,

Wendy

Theres quite a few places Wendy, there is a big shop at Jungceylon (new books) and another one off the square at Jungceylon opposite the Irish pub selling second hand books, another second hand book shop on Rat-u-Thit rd, past Bangla Rd (head north) on the left hand side, we bought quite a few here they ranged in price from 200-300baht for hard covers. Theres a few to get you started.

Books are very expensive in Thailand. Your best bet by far is to avoid the shops selling new books, such as exist in Jungceylon, and to seek out some of the second hand book shops. There are a couple near the aforementioned Jungceylon on the other side of the road. They have a decent range.

I haven%26#39;t found books expensive in Phuket (not saying that they%26#39;re not). B2S at Central Festival is a nice bookshop. It%26#39;s upstairs, connected to the Central Department Store. I%26#39;m not sure how much fiction they have, as I%26#39;ve never looked, but they do have some lovely books.

B2S is dearer than in Australia.

Not that I%26#39;ve noticed, Rufus. We have bought several books there and the prices seemed on a par with what I pay in Australia - actually, one of the books was more expensive in Australia - ';From Good to Great';.

15% more for Harry Potter; 20% more for Colin Cotteril. Perhaps books are cheaper in Melbourne than Perth.

Why waste time looking for books just take them with you and leave behind once you have read. Just don%26#39;t make the mistake Idid and leave in the hotel libary and replace with others only to find that they were a different language once on the plane heading home. Bez

Another second hand book shop is on Rat-U-Thid rd., Opposites Siam Commercial Bank, about 100 meters across from Nicky%26#39;s Handle Bar.
