Koh Samui at the end of December

I%26#39;ve booked the airplane tickets and was get to confirm the room when I received the following from the unnamed resort.

Any thoughts or response would be appreciated. My first response was, considering how difficult it is to even find a room, there are going to be a bunch of disappointed people on the island.

';Sorry for our late reply. I forget to let you know something that is very important !!!

Refer to the weather %26amp; sea condition in Koh Samui during 28 Dec. - 1 Jan., normally there would be a storm windy and also highly waves into the sea in 2 years ago. Tourists could not go for swimming or sunbaithing at all. The beachfront rooms could not staying properly and some other wooden restaurant / bungalow was damaged as well. Thus, we are not sure yet for the situation this year.

If possible, can you waiting until the beginning of December and we will let you know about the weather %26amp; sea condition again. If no, probably you can change your planning to another location instead. We would like you to have a nice and lovely holiday indeed';

';Amazing Thailand'; as the Tourist Authority of Thailand would say.

The last two years have been fine at the end of December.Perhaps their version of Punxsutawney Phil knows something that the rest of us should know!

What a rubbish....We all swim here and we didn%26#39;t have any storms.

Also sea has different conditions in different areas of the island. There might be some waves in South Chaweng aand people use this opportunity to go surfing there, but north/middle chaweng and all the rest of the island has hardly any waves.

Change a hotel.

Thank you both. This reply was from Maenam Village so I%26#39;m not sure what%26#39;s going on. I%26#39;m trying to find some place to stay for a family of four that isn%26#39;t $400+ a night, not including the required dinner of $X for New Years Eve. I thought the Village or even the Resort met the bill. The resort is full, the Village, well I don%26#39;t know what to make of their response.

Our fault for having to come at the peak of peak season, but with kids in school that%26#39;s the time we have.

Any help on other places to stay I should explore would be very helpful and I%26#39;d be most grateful.

Peace,

RR

Susquosh, any relation to Sasquatch, who lives out our direction?

I%26#39;d imagine they overbooked and are trying to put some guests off coming...very bad customer service indeed!

That is really ODD!! have you found a hotel yet though?

Bubbles,

I did find another on the same side of the island. Thank you for asking.

RR

During monsoon (November and December) in the Gulf of Thailand always have big waves and windy. Traveling to Ang Thong National Park, Surat Thani Province is not safe. Thus, National Park office announced for temporary closing during November and December every year

Remark : Koh Samui lies off the coast of Surat Thani province in the gulf of Thailand.

The Climate and Weather

Unfortunately visitors are sometimes incorrectly informed about Koh Samui%26#39;s seasons prior to their departure. Not everyone is aware for example, that we do not have the same rainy season as does Phuket.

Generally speaking, between the months of January and September, most days will be filled with sun, except for the occasional downpour, which usually doesn%26#39;t last long. The frequent showers (not monsoons) come in October, and last until sometime in December. Water sports enthusiasts should note that the sea can get rough at this time, and visibility can be affected.
