Lone female in Sukhumvit area - which hotel?

Hi,

I am planning a dental trip to Bangkok and am wanting to stay in the Sukhumvit rd area to be near the dental clinic. I have looked at a number of hotels/apartments and just cant decide!

I have looked at:

Tai Pan hotel

Grand President apartments

President park

Centre point Sukhumvit 10

Citidines Sukhimvit 8

So I%26#39;m looking to spend approx 2000-2400 a night, would be nice to have cooking facilities (as am having dental implants), and I%26#39;ll be staying for 8 nights. I am aware that this area is well known for the ';night life'; and althoguh its not a major problem, would prefer to not be around areas of prostitutioon. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The only one I%26#39;ve stayed at is the Centre Point Suk Soi 10. Beautiful property! And my very large studio suite had a full kitchenette with a washer-dryer. Elegantly furnished, very good bathroom. There%26#39;s a nice big pool and a proper gym. Breakfast buffet was OK. It%26#39;s about 5-10 min.walk down the soi, but they have a 24 hour tuktuk service to take you up and down. It%26#39;s near to Suk, but away from the craziness when you want to be away. Asoke BTS station is quite near; Nana not far away. Ideal if you need to be in that part of town. Suites going on Wotif.com for 2900 are a very good deal!

You might add CitiChic to your list. Very stylish new boutique hotel also up a soi away from Suk, but a short walk to the BTS or the Saen Saep Canal boat station. Same price range.

answer is quite simple - in your budget range any hotel will be super and give you no problem - www.hotelthailand.com is useful as there are maps so you can choose a location convenient for skytrain

Thanks for your advice, but are any of the streets best to stay clear of? For example soi 11 where the night clubs are? Or Soi 23 which is near soi cowboy?

Just want a ';safe-ish'; area as I am travelling by myself and would want to feel safe walking about at night when required.

Anyone stayed at Admiral Suites?

Pretty safe in most areas in Bangkok - as long as you keep your common sense you will be fine. :)

None of the sois or Suk itself are inherently unsafe, even if they%26#39;re nightlife hotspots. As a western woman, obviously not on the hunt, you%26#39;re most likely going to be simply ignored. But do take care of your handbag when you walk through the crowded street market which springs up from about soi 15 to soi 3 in the evenings. There are sometimes pickpockets and purse snatchers about. Otherwise, the usual provisos of travelling apply: keep your wits about you, don%26#39;t overindulge in alcohol, and be careful about going anywhere with strangers, be they men or women (or anything in between). ;-)

The best area to stay is right next to Nana station on soi 7/1. Hotel name is World Inn. Every thing is accessible, Nana BTS is 1 min walk. plenty of stores near by, and above of all safest in town.

If you want to stay away from blatant prostitution do not stay anywhere near Nana entertainment Plaza. Cowboy is much more relaxed and although it is an ';entertainment'; area it is not ';in your face'; about it.

I would suggest maybe staying somewhere within a walk of Asoke sky train or near to Nana sky train station but not towards Nana entertainment plaza. No closer than The Landmark Hotel.

thanks for your advice! I will have another look at my selected hotels. I have been keen on Tai Pan, and if soi cowboy is not too bad to be near then I may go with that hotel. Thanks again, and any other suggestions most welcome!

NEP - isn%26#39;t that bad, especially if you just walk on by it. Worst you will see is lads drinking with ladies - awful/shocking it%26#39;s behaviour I know, but if you walk by it I%26#39;m quite positive the impact will be negligible.

As for Cowboy - big ripoff area, especially with drinks ect. So do be careful in that respect if that is the area you choose to be in.

When they refer to Soi Nana as the one to avoid, it is Soi 4
