I%26#39;m due to arrive in Bangkok next week and was wondering what the situation was like after the latest confrontations between protesters and police. Have heard of a car bomb going off as well?
I%26#39;m wary of believing all the western reports in London, but are these latest problems likely to effect tourists. I%26#39;m staying in major hotels near Sukhumvit Road.
Many thanks for any info
Lastet protests in Bangkok
Suhkumvit area has never seen any violence that could be attributed to the political situation here. It does often see violence that is caused, more often than not, from foreigners who have chosen to pick fights either with each other or with locals, normally at a time when most people are fast asleep!
But don%26#39;t get me wrong - it%26#39;s a safe area (otherwise I would have scarpered years ago!).
Lastet protests in Bangkok
I haven%26#39;t heard about car bomb. What I heard was the police hurt the protesters. But it%26#39;s only limited to the same area. Please don%26#39;t be panick with all those reports. We live happily here. You can stay in Sukhumvit for years without seeing any protest.
Hi;
I shall be visiting Bangkok in November, 2008 and staying at the Majestic suite on Sukhumvit road.
This will be the 4x I stay in this hotel in last 2years lower soi Sukhumvit tourist belt.
I%26#39;m visiting Europe at the moment. I%26#39;m baffled how the news media blow the Thai situation out of proportion.
If I didn%26#39;t know BKK so well I would believe what they say. Once again it is a big story over a situation which is located in one part of town where tourists rarely venture into.
The rest of BKK will never see any water canons and smoke deterrents.
None of my friends back in BKK seem to be alarmed and in panic.
If you have doubts and don%26#39;t feel safe to travel to Thailand because of what you see on your news, don%26#39;t go. What others consider safe may not be safe in your eyes.
Confined to government buildings, parliament and pm office. I wouldn%26#39;t worry too much - rubbish happens all the time in recent years. If army/govt acted as one entity we wouldn%26#39;t have this lunacy.
However that being said there is a certain order to Thai chaos. :)
Hi;
Protesting is just a normal political activies in any democracy country. There are many protesters in the capital city of the USA. and seem nobody cares and even mentioned on the News. Why should be people worry protesting in Bangkok ?
