trip ideas

Hi all we are off to thailand in April 2009.It has been 20 years and 3 kids since we have been to thailand and we are now able to take the kids to show them our favourite place in the world. We are going to bangkok for 5 nights chaing mai for 5 nights and phuket for 14 nights.I have been reading all the wounderful posts on here and have a few questions. Where would be the best place to visit the elephants, chaing mai or phuket or both? We hate doing the real touristy thing where you are hearded about. We prefer to hire a driver/guide and get them to take us to the REAL area we are visiting. I would welcome any sugestions people may have on places to take the kids to see the real thailand. Kids are 15,and 11 year old twins.

Your in for a great trip and your timings are just right. You will certainly notice a huge difference from your earlier trip.

For your time in BKK try to include an overnighter in Kanchanaburi and definately visit the Australian War Museum at Hellfire Pass. One of the best museums that I have visited.

Chiang Mai has some good elephant farms and we enjoyed the Mae Sa elephant farm about 12ks north of the city. Also try to take in a one day cooking class. They are a lot of fun, economical and I%26#39;m sure the kids will enjoy it also.

For 2 weeks in Phuket you could easily do a circle trip similar to us last November and visit Phuket, Ko Phi Phi, Ko Lanta and Krabi.

Happy and safe travels
