Must do things in Khao Lak

Hello folks,

My new husband and I will be arriving in Khao Lak on 3rd November to stay at Le Meridien for 9 nights then off to Bangkok for 3 nights - am very excited!! I was wondering what the key things to see and do are while we are in Khao Lak, be they organised tours or just small things like great beaches to see etc. Am keen to make the most of this honeymoon trip as we went to Koh Samui and Bangkok last year but I fell ill in Samui probably from ice in a drink and the stomach bug stopped me from doing loads of the stuff I had planned.

Thanks

Must do things in Khao Lak

Hi Little Otter,

While in Khao Lak you can go on trips organised by tour companies, but hiring a car will give you more independance. Good tour companies are Smile and Eco Khao Lak Adventure, but Le Meridien will have a tour desk.

November is the start of the high season, so everthing will be open.

The top ten of things to see and do will include-

Visit to Khao Sok National Park.

Snorkelling trip to the Similan Islands.

Visit Cheow Lan Lake (boat trips) and Dam.

Elephant Trekking (Khao Sok area or Sairung, which is closer to Khao Lak).

Visit to Takuapa old town and Takuapa Market.

Visit a Waterfall (Lampi is my favorite)

Turtle Sanctuary at Thai Muang

Visit to Kho Khao Island

Tsunami Memorial Bang Nam Khem

Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park

Evening meal in beachfront restaurant with sunset (try Bangsak or Pakweeb beaches)

Evening meal in one of the many excellent restaurants in either Bang Niang or Bang La On.

Cookery classes (in hotel or outside).

Walking/beachcombing on miles of virtually deserted beaches (Bangsak/Pakweeb are best).

Late night drinks and live music (Happy Snapper in Bang La On or The Degree Bar in Bang Niang perhaps)

Oh dear, thats more than 10, but I hope you get the idea!

Have a great time.

PS. I have never been ill while in Khao Lak, so don%26#39;t worry.

Hello Little Otter,

In the Le Meridien they have a tour agency called Asian Trails the girl that works in there is lovely. You will find that her prices are very good for the tour trips.

Other trips not mentioned above if you like snorkelling the trip to Surin Island is excellent. Shopping the day trip to Phuket is also good. Phang Nga visiting James Bond Island and Koh Panyee gypsey village.

You are staying on one of the best beaches in Khao Lak it is beautifull. I also have never suffered with any stomach bugs in Khao Lak.

There is a waterfall near to the LM it is nice to use the mountain bikes which you will find by the tennis courts and bike it there. They will give you a map to follow.

Funny. I was JUST about to make a topic asking the same things.

We%26#39;re only going to be in Khao Lak for 2 days.

Our 1st day will be spent doing a bit of R %26amp; R after our tiring 4 days in Phuket. I was wondering what is there to see over in Khao Lak. How far is that tsunami memorial from LM?

We want to spend our 2nd day whitewater rafting and elephant trekking. I heard this can be done at Khao Sok National Park. (?)

Ugh, sorry about that post. I just saw some of my questions answered in that 1st reply. LOL

These places are close to LM though, right? I mean, we only have 1 day to go sightseeing and relax. *sigh*

The Tsunami Memorial is about 30 -45 minutes by car/taxi from Le Meridien. Well worth a visit if you have time but it will be a whistlestop tour if you want to do other things. You could combine it with an elephant ride to Saurung Waterfall which is on the way. Could do both in half a day.

Fab, thanks for all your replies, sounds like there is actually loads to do apart from just relaxing - can%26#39;t wait am v excited now!!

Little Otter
