Going to Koh Lanta March 09 and deciding between Layana or Pimalai. We dont do watersports just want nice relaxing days and nights with nice restaurants/bars. I am thinking maybe more Layana as its close to more restaurants etc and Pimalai is more for scuba diving - any thoughts?
Layana or Pimalai?
Pimalay is 5 star. way above Layana. No comparison. But layana is very nice too. But your traditional hotel. Have la look at the Relax Bay if you want a more nature tripp. Ideal to relax. However NO televion, but much more quitly then your average hotel; less luxe then layana, but more greenery. More concept.
And a nice restaurant too. Together with pimalai, Layana and relax bay you can say that they are in the top of the restaurants serving world food. For typical Thai food, several places are good. Try the restaurant then in Old Lanta touwn. 1/2 hour on motocycle from either of those places.
Layana or Pimalai?
Pimalai may have the setting, overlooking the bay, but the beach is horrible for swimming with sharp rocks (I cut my feet badly on two different occasions).
For service and a soft, white sandy beach, go to Layana. Friendly, wonderful staff and exquisite beach villas.
Layana ( for me ) wins hands down - stayed a few times and always amazing times.

Visited Pimalai for lunch ( + nosey ! )
