We will be staying at the Chiang Mai Plaza for 2 nights (Sat/Sun 22nd/23d Nov) and I have read about various markets including night markets. Could anyone advise me please on which ones are closest to the hotel or worth a visit as our itinery is tight.

None are very far to travel to from your hotel. Night markets are on every night but the sat and sun ones have more range.
The night markets are more touristy, whereas the weekend markets have a lot of local arts and craft also.
Saturday markets are on late arvo? and Sunday ones are huge and start about 6pm.
Maybe choose the best one to go to depending on your itinery.
