Places to visit in phuket??

Hi guys,

We are heading to phuket for the first time on the 12th October and wanting to hire a driver for a few days. We are wanting to check out some of the sites/ places of interest that are away from the typical tourist spots and we would love to see some of the true thai culture and natural beauty.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers

Nat

Places to visit in phuket??

hey Nat.

we used a driver called kitty while we were in phuket.

he is a local and his english is pretty good compared to some of the drivers and is happy to drive to shows and the zoo and stuff- and he will also take small groups to places as a tour group. his brother is a tour bus driver so he knows all the great places and will get you on tours where poss.

he calls himself %26#39;kitty can drive%26#39; and his no is 08 46301591.

you can find drivers everywhere, but kitty will give you a good deal, especially if you book him for a few days of trips

Mai can drive you around for 1,500 baht for the day and won%26#39;t take you to places so that he can get commission, he%26#39;ll take you to places worth seeing. You can write to him and tell him what you%26#39;re after and see what he comes up with.

His email address is; hknuch@hotmail.com

Hi Nat,

I would like to suggest some places to see local%26#39;s life, There is one local ceremony on your holidays period called “Ok Phansa”, the meaning is the end of the Buddhist lent and falls on the full moon of the eleventh lunar month(October). This is a day of joyful celebration and merit-making, this year is dated on 14 October, and it’s more activities on 15 October, so if you would like to see some local culture, this is the one I would suggest. You can take a look in any temples you might convenience since all temples will do this ceremony. I would suggest some great temples, as Wat Luang Poo Supa(Luang Poo Supa Temple) and Wat Chalong(Chalong Temple). Luang Poo Supa is a monk who established Wat Luang Poo Supa and he’s the oldest monk in Thailand (115 years) and very popular now. Wat Chalong is very famous and it’s often added in tourist program.(15 October, 7.30am. till 11am. is suitable time)

Aparts from above local ceremony, some places you might would like to see;

*Local Sea Gypsy Village, Leam Took-Kair or Rawai

*Talad Kaset(Kaset Market), Local morning fresh market.(6am. till 9am. is suitable time)

*Talad Downtown(Downtown Market), Local evening fresh market.(6pm. till 10pm. is suitable time)

*Saphanhin(Sa-Phan-Hin), Locals leisure park(5.30pm. till 7pm. is suitable time)

*Weekend Market, Locals market and plenty of local things.(6 pm. till 9 pm. is suitable time)

Here is the link of some culture information of Phuket, culture.go.th/culture_en/southern/south_menu…

Welcome and Have a Fabulous Holidays here!

Ae :)

Thanks for the info Sea Amity. Can you pls give addresses for the markets you mention under the Sea Gipsy Village. Went to the URL but the site%26#39;s in Thai.

As Khun Ae says, Luang Poo Supha is getting very popular now. He sleeps a lot though, so you have to pick your times to visit. He still may not be awake though. I can%26#39;t remember the times now, but perhaps Khun Ae can tell you, otherwise I could give you the number of a Maechi (ladymonk) from his temple, she can escort you and explain things, as she speaks english very well.

Liccylaccy I went to the url as well and it showed up in English lol

Cathy

Khun Tina is right, he needs to take a rest more since his age. I saw him recently on last two month when he came to my kid school for blessing and he looked difficult to move. I think he should come out on the 15th October to give a blessing in morning for a moment since that ceremony is quite important. It%26#39;s great to get the number of Maechi from Khun Tina due to her Buddhism khowledge is much more better than me, but for other several local things you might would like to know, I would be happy to give you all information as much as I know(by my scrappy English language,lol..), just ask. :)

Khun Liccylaccy, Have a look on this map link, thaiwaysmagazine.com/phuket_map/phuket_map_t… , Talad Kaset is written as ';Market'; on this map, it%26#39;s on Ong Sim Phai rd., behind Robinson Shopping Mall, and near Circle Nimit. Enjoy! :)

Khun Ae, can you remember what times Luang Poo Supha is available for blessings? I have forgotten. I have been to the temple while he has been sleeping when they open the curtains so you can watch him sleep.

Do you know Maechi Toom?

Khun Tina, He%26#39;s available for blessings at 8 a.m. till 9.30 a.m. on the morning and at 1 p.m. till 3 p.m. on the afternoon. I just khow that Maechi Tom is a person who taking care around Luang Poo Supa%26#39;s house, I have ever talk with her only a few words.

Another activity in this temple(Wat Luang Poo Supa), I have just got the information that this temple will set a big sermonning on the 16th October too(Starts at 6 p.m.). :)
