Hi!
Yep i know... %26#39;not another exchange rate question!!%26#39;
But... Advice please... With the AUD slowly going down I have been tossing up whether or not to exchange some of my cash here in Perth before I leave next week (15/10/08). The international rate is currently 24.55THB and i can buy in Perth at 21.688THB.
Does it get much better then that in Phuket currently?
What would you do? Exchange now in case it goes down or hold out the week and hope it doesnt?
I know it%26#39;s all trivial and we%26#39;re talking a loss of cents - but still! I worked hard for my money!
Thanks again,
Tammy
Exchanging $$ in Australia V's Phuket
Hi Tammy, I was thinking about the same thing actually. We are leaving this Saturday and was thinking about whether it is a good idea to get it exchanged now or later.
Exchanging $$ in Australia V's Phuket
Also interested in this as we leave on Saturday week (18th) and getting a bit worried about exchange rates. Luckily I still have 1800tbt left from our last trip a couple of years ago so wasn%26#39;t planning on exchanging money till we got there.
Cheers
Tink
Rate a always much better in Phuket, but when you think about it, the difference is not much anyway
It was at about 24.5 Baht v Aus yesterday.
Today it%26#39;s;
1.00 AUD = 23.5423 THB
If I was going the Thailand as planned at Christmas( changed travel to a more settled Vietnam), I would change money now if you can.
With the RBA lowering the official interest rate by a full 1% yesterday, it is an indication we have worse yet to come.
If you decide to change in Aus have a look at the exchange rate at the Post Office. They don%26#39;t charge you any commision I think it has to be at least $200 mininium.
Hey Tammy~
Sorry. this has nothing to do with your question but wanted to say Have an awesome trip!!! from another tammy.
We just got back sunday. Loved it. overwhelming at first but loved it!!
Will post my trip report once I catch up on all my work emails: )
I would wait util you got up to Phuket. The rate difference now between Perth rate of 21.68 and 24.55 in Phuket is around 12%. Even if the rate dropped in Phuket, it has to drop 12% before you have lost any diffence. The AUD may improve between now and then, or may still drop!! You may also have to pay a commission in Perth wereas in Phuket money changers, no commission is charged.
We arrived in Phuket 2 weeks ago and the rate was 28.03 and we left last Friday when the rate was 26.57.

UDT Thai Baht 23.78 0.84 -3.41% 24.64 23.35
Really not good!!
Thanks Tammy :) Can%26#39;t wait! look foward to reading you JBR too!
I walked down to the post office to exchange some cash and apparently they don%26#39;t carry it! They could order it in at 22.60 if i paid on the spot - decided against it. And after reading the last post I think i%26#39;ll try and stay oblivious to the rate changes until i get to Phuket and deal with it then :)
Thanks guys!
hi tammy,
definately your best bet you%26#39;ve still got a week,I think it will improve by then?
