vaccinations for phuket???

hi :) I know this topic has probably been posted before but I%26#39;m wondering if the hep A/typhoid vaccination is really necessary for Phuket or if there are any others we need to consider? We are only staying 12 nights at the centara karon beach resort. We will be eating out alot though. Is the risk high? Can anyone tell me about the side attacks of this vaccination? i realise i should check with my doctor but thought it better to ask those who have experienced it rather than someone looking it up in a book.

cheers Michelle

vaccinations for phuket???

I was just wondering the same thing! Not that that comment is going to help you any, sorry :)

vaccinations for phuket???

Hi Michelle,

I had my vaccs done a couple of weeks ago and other than the injection site being a little tender for a couple of days I have had no side effects.

I think whether you get your vaccs done or not is a personal choice, my other 2 travelling companions decided not to get them done.

Hi Michelle

We are going to Phuket next year and our doctor said that we only need the hep A%26amp;B you can get them combind, but you need to have the three doses as then you are coverd for life.

Hi Michelle, as another poster said, it really is a personal opinion on whether to get the vaccinations done or not. Hubby and I have been to Phuket 3 times and have not had any vaccinations, we ate out every night, even ate off the street and haven%26#39;t been sick. But in saying that, we travelled to Malaysia this year and had our Hep A vacc before going. It really is completely up to you. I say, go ahead and get it done if it will give you peace of mind and help you enjoy your holiday.

Hi Michelle

I agree with most other posters, it is personal choice as to whether or not you get the vaccinations done. I have just returned from Phuket for 10 days, and took my 7,9 yr old and also my father. I work for council and I was entitled to free vacinations, so I had Hep A/B combined (twinrix) and as I missed out on my MMR as a child I had this done as well. So once I had mine done, I tgt that I would be overcome with guilt if anything happened to the kids whilst away, so got Hep A done for them, as Heb is in their immunisations if they are 7 and under. Didnt worry about typhoid as I knew that I wasnt going anywhere that I might contract it in the first place. If you are planning on doing ATV then malaria might be the go due to stagnannt water etc, but quite honestly, when I went to Bali a few yrs ago I didnt worry about any injections and came back fine without illness, had them this time, and also came back without illness, so purely personal choice based on yr activites ....

Hope this helps and doesnt confuse you

Cheers Christina

our doc just recommended the Hep A. so thats all we ended up having. we only had ours a few days ago, no reaction at all. kids didnt even flinch.

was told typhoid and hep B wasnt needed.

Its not cheap though. it cost us $71 per injection for just hep A.

My doctor said not really necessary, just avoid eating leafy greens and salads. But seeing as Hep A can really put a dampener on your hols, he said if I was at all concerned I may as well get that. Being in my 40%26#39;s, he said I already had some protection from Hep A from previous innoculations.

Also suggested tetanus if you haven%26#39;t had one in the last 10-15 years. Said not to bother with Typhoid if we were just staying in the touristy areas.

He went to Phuket last year, and had no vaccinations, and he can get them for free. Having said that, he%26#39;s probably already had Hep A+B before.
