Does anyone know how much this should cost ? According to the Thai Rail site it is only about 700 TB for a 1st class sleeper but can%26#39;t seem to get a response from them. Have mailed a couple agencies but they want to charge 拢30 for the ticket which is a lot more than 700 baht..... any ideas what everyone else paid would be GGGreat!
Overnight - Bangkok to Nong Kai
the cost of the 1st class sleeper is actually 1250B, the second class sleeper is 700B.
it%26#39;s not unusual for thai railways to take their time in responding.

I enjoy the Chan Tours VIP bus from Northern bus station.
530 baht.
VIP bus has seat configuration 1-2 meaning three seats per row total.
Nice big seats on double decker bus, usually electric massage inbuilt in the seat.
You need to book in advance though.
About 1250 is correct for a 1st class ticket. If you are coming to Laos, I would fly to Udon Thani with Air Asia and then take a mini bus to the Friendship Bridge - faster, more comfortable and about the same cost.
If you want to take a train in Thailand, just go to the railway station and buy the ticket. Any other method will not be effective. This is not the First World.

I bought a ticket though an agency for one trip. I used one of the agencies listed at the site above (Traveller2000, picked at random) and it worked out fine for me - ticket waiting at my hotel on arrival. Just a few email exchanges to settle on the booking because the night train fills up fast in all classes.

Yes, thanks, I was just going to say the same thing. We ended up booking with Asia Discovery, also getting their details off of Seat61 and they were very helpful and only charged about 300 Baht to do everything for us.
So whilst it may not be a ';First World Country';, there is always someone out there willing to do it for you.
