I know, I know...this has nothing to do with travel, but it does. NO ONE here is traveling as much as they did, the whole world is bankrupt (Iceland is days away from actually filing for bankruptcy. THE WHOLE COUNTRY!) and flights from the U.S. have gone up (for me from last year to Phuket) $500USD.
We here watch closely and I%26#39;m curious about your collective views on the US. More specifically, who do you want to win? And, as an aside, what do you think about a black man running and more than likely winning?
I%26#39;m a full-on Barack Obama guy.
Thanks for reading.

Hi Scott,
Andy is going to love this one!
Personally, I don%26#39;t much care who wins the election.
Neither of them really do that much for me. If I had to choose - I guess I would vote for Obama. And incidently, it appears as though he will win from what we hear in the media.
But hopefully things settle down soon! - The Australian sharemarket is in the toilet, the dollar is in freefall and there is a lot of uncertainty.
The next month will be very interesting indeed.

Hi Scott,
Not really into politics as such but while in Hua Hin met a couple of guys from San Francisco, one a sherriff actually and we all had a great debate on all things U.S. from 9/11 to Obama to hurricanes etc while sitting at the pool bar. It was very interesting. I actually like Obama,he speaks really well and seems to know his stuff, but they think he is too inexperienced, apparently Bush is not liked at all, well we all knew that! And Ms Rice fits in well as she is a black woman and can get into places a white woman can%26#39;t without upsetting the wrong people...apparently. Probably set a few cats among the pidgeons here now Scott. Your politics are so differently done to us here in Oz, but the outcomes the same, you can%26#39;t please all the people all the time! Sue
Hi Scott
I%26#39;m sorry to say I%26#39;m a bit ignorant when it comes to American politics, but for me I would base my vote on policy not race.
I have heard a lot about financing the bail out plans for the banks, which I understand why it had to be done, but has there been any talk of reform %26amp; regulation ?
As for the cost of travelling, we leave for Phuket in 5 days. When I booked our accomodation, the hotel took our credit card details as security %26amp; said we could pay when we arrived. At the time the exchange rate was 30.8 bt to $1 au, so I asked if we could pay for it then. Today the rate is 24.5, which mean if we waited till arrival to pay it would be $560 au dearer!!
Pete
OOOOOOhhhhh I love races....
are they having a sack race,
maybe a 3 legged race...
or and egg and spoon race, that%26#39;s always fun :)
Agree with Harvey. Just another to Stuff it up even further. Americans are brought up at a very young age regading Politics. Have a friend who reakons Obama but thinks he%26#39;l be another assasinated.(racial) Hope Not. The Aus$ is going to go down further. We all knew it was to good to last.
Scott
Your post has caused me to have a bit of a think.
I must say here in Aus, Obama seems to get a favourable run from the media.
On the other hand, they portray Sarah Pallin as a complete twit. If she was an Australian we would call her a bogan.
We had a politician here in Aus who would compare to her. Her famous reply was when asked if she was xenophobic was '; Please explain'; Ha!
Luckily we have other female politicians on both sides of the political spectare who are great representatives.
Pete
I find it sad that the US selects candidates of such poor quality. They had an excellent possible candidate in Hilary Clinton and failed to nominate her. Its not surprising that they get presidents of the quality of G. W. Bush.
Hi Scott
Can%26#39;t help but think Osama is behind it all.........................destroy the world%26#39;s financial markets, then pounce.
Doesn%26#39;t matter who wins......neither of them are going to be able to salvage the mess Bush has created for many many years to come. Not even China can pull us outta this one.
This is my last holiday for a long long time I do believe. My investments have been ripped to shreds (or as one other poster said....down the toilet) and I can hear my father%26#39;s voice from the grave droning on.........invest in cash, invest in cash, invest in cash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I%26#39;m having a day of regrets (pffffffffff) and I just cut my holiday next month short 4 days to save some money. Fortunately I have some USD here from a previous trip that I haven%26#39;t cashed, so at least I%26#39;ll have some spending money in Phuket and Hong Kong :P
No matter Scott....I don%26#39;t hold the little people in the US accountable. Thanks for sharing your views and the interesting comment about Iceland (or is that Aussieland????)
At least the mortgage holders got their reprieve yesterday and their 6% interest rate (wassup with complaining about 7% anyway??) I guess I came from the 17% mortage interest rate era where we had to save a deposit to buy our first home, instead of having all the mod cons first (ugggggggggggggg now I%26#39;m really starting to sound like my father!!! HELP!)
Off to make a vegemite sandwich for dinner now :)
Hey Pete!
Your a bit hard on yourself mate.....

Your comments are about the most intelligent so far. Except for Pauline (Mum) Hanson, who is someone I just adore.
By the way, I just love George Bush. It is easy to make fun of him. Has anyone thought seriously about the consequencs of electing Obama? He is not half as funny, probably not as stupid, and doesn%26#39;t have all the baggage that Bush had, even before he became King of the Free World.
So how are we gunna laugh at Obama? Other than his weird name? Every cartoonist and columnist is going to have to be politically correct when taking the mickey out of him. Almost impossible. Imagine the ramifications!
By the way, do any of your candidates eat ear wax?
Easy to laugh at McCain, all you have to do is look at his choice for VP.
So, go with McCain, and we can all have a good laugh at the politicians, and then get back to work.
That%26#39;s my advice anyway.
By the way, I note that t/a haven%26#39;t removed this thread yet. That is probably because they want to know the answers to Scott%26#39;s question as much as he does. It will be gone soon but.
Mark.
