Solo traveler finishing his Bucket List

Hi there,

I am flying into Bangkok on Oct 15 and will be staying in Thailand for a month. I plan on hitting the beaches in either Krabi Rae lei (?), Koh Samui , Chang Mai and then Siem Reap than back to bangkok.

I am not sure what is a good amount of time to spend in each area or if I should cancel one of the destinations, add a different destination or what. I just planned a flight into Bangkok and figured I would figure it out from there. I am solo male age 45 fullfilling the trip of a lifetime. I can rough it where I need to and can afford medium priced lodging for respite. Looking for Help from experienced travelers

1 month is just about enough for all those destinations, about 4-5 days in each. Siem Reap, though, is not in Thailand but in Cambodia. You can get to all those places easily on bus or train, if comfort is not all that important. Getting into Cambodia, though, is more tricky on land, and flying is recommended. The biggest problem is not access but communication. If you don%26#39;t know Thai or are not used to ';Thai-style English';, it can be frustrating.

Great time frame for your trip and I am sure you will enjoy your time. We have done similar trips of your duration so I would suggest the following...

Fly into BKK and spend a few days checking out the city and nightlife. Arrange an overnighter to Kanchanaburi for River Kwaii, Tigers, waterfalls and Australian war Museum at Hellfire Pass. Also arrange overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai for a few days later.

Chiang Mai for about 4-5 days. Quite a relaxing pace after BKK, enjoy a cooking class, elephant farms, night markets etc. Perhaps a trip up to Pai in the mountains for a few days. Return to BKK either by overnight train or pre-book well in advance a flight with Air Asia or similar for a cheap flight.

Fly BKK to SR and get a 3 day temple pass to see the temples, 4hr bus trip to Phnom Penh and allow 2 days here. Fly PP back to BKK and then on down to Phuket.

Spend a few days in Phuket, then ferry out to Ko Phi Phi for a few days and then ferry to Krabi for a few days before flying back to BKK.

By leaving the islands to last you should enjoy better weather. We were there last November and weather was magnificent for swimming, snorkelling etc.
