We are visiting bangkok for 3 nights in February as part of our honeymoon trip to Thailand. Can anyone recommend a good hotel. We would like to stay in either 4 or 5 star.

What is your budget?
The Oriental, Penninsula, Hilton, Shangri-la (new wing) and Marriott are good hotels by the river with international standard.
If you want to explore more, few places can be explored.

Check out all the hotel reviews here on TA. There are many good 4/5 stars as mention above, plus Nai Lert Park, Centara, Sofitel, etc etc.
As you are first time visitors I would reccomend the Sheraton Grande. It is a 5 star with a great pool and nice restaraunts. It is also connected to the Sky train by a raised walkway so easy access to most of the major shopping areas.
The Landmark hotel on sukhumvit rd. By skytrain station so only 5 min journey to shopping district siam square.
Grand Hyatt Erawan is centrally located, near shopping complex and BTS.
