Is it possible to see Ayutthaya, bus back to bangkok and...

...then travel to Pattaya.

I would like to arrive in Pattaya around 8pm.

Is this possible or am trying to cram to much into one day.

Yes it%26#39;s possible. Bus from the Northeast Terminal in Kamphengphet Road to Ayuddyha, then back to the same bus terminal, then at the same terminal get a bus to Pattaya. But, one day will only give you a brief look at what the city has to offer. Travel time from Bkk to Ayuddhya about 1 hour, coming back in the late afternoon/evening would be longer because of traffic.
