Kicking off badly in Bangkok :-(

Bangkok Post report today 162 injured in crowd dispersals, some severely. 3 policeman shot and injured in parliament by PAD protestors and a woman killed after an explosion near the Chart Thai party鈥檚 headquarters.

At least down here we just see it on the TV but anyone in Bangkok should stay well clear of any government building.

Very clear pictures on TV of one of the PAD mobsters firing a handgun (revolver) at police. TV news says two cops seriously injured, and the the woman was killed when her Jeep exploded - cause is not known. One protester had his fingers blown off when trying to pick up a tear gas canister, and another had his leg blown off.

However, all this is confined to a small area.

We%26#39;re flying later today -so the news has me worried.

The small area you mentioned is around the Parliament building, right?

So tourists should avoid visiting Vimanmek Mansion, Dusit Zoo or the Marble Temple which are all nearby, for the time being. Is that correect?

I hate to say this. but it is directed at/for tourists (and I have many family members just arrived and presently spread around the south sunning themselves (hopefully), but Bkk is still safe. As Phuketrex said, avoid the government areas, That means govenrment house specifically. Neither side wants a confrontation in a tourist area coz noone wins.
